The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy in partnership with the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is currently engaging in a community-based biodiesel initiative made possible by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). Known as Clean Energy Biofuels, the pilot program has already been running successfully in Atlanta, Georgia for three years. The Knoxville program is of similar scale, and aims to supply biodiesel to the University of Tennessee, the City of Knoxville, community businesses, and others. The Knoxville program will also provide students with an educational opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience through the operation, maintenance, evaluation, and distribution of the biodiesel fuel process.
